The quality of Oriental Rugs speaks for itself. Instead of being manufactured in machines like Modern Rugs, Oriental Rugs are handwoven entirely out of the same material. The two most common materials used to weave Oriental Rugs are cotton or wool. If you have an authentic Oriental Rug, then you should have 100% of one of these materials in it.
Their "Oriental" nature indicates the rugs were woven in some Asian or Middle Eastern countries. You'll recognize Oriental Rugs when you see them because they'll have lots of exciting patterns, colors, and shapes in their designs that you don't see in any other rugs. You'll know right away that a lot of time and effort went into weaving them. They are like personal works of art to the artisans that make them.

Oriental rug restoration is vital because it helps preserve the hard work, creativity, and imagination of the skilled artisan who originally made it. Aside from that, Oriental Rugs are pretty valuable and attractive. You probably won't find any two oriental rugs that are identical because of how personal they are to their creators. To pay homage to their work, you should always Restore your Oriental Rugs if they're in less than perfect condition.
There are different levels of Oriental Rug Restoration. Sometimes your Oriental Rugs may only need a good vacuuming and steam cleaning to remove dirt and dust particles. But if there are tough stains in the cotton or wool fabric of the rug, then try mixing a batch of mild soap and warm water. Dip a sponge into the solution and lightly scrub the stained areas of the rug with it. Stay consistent with the strokes. Don't be too aggressive.
Remember that Oriental Rugs are very delicate, so you must treat them as such. You can't restore an Oriental Rug by aggressively scrubbing the stains out of it. That'll cause further damage and deterioration to the rug. It'll be hard enough trying to maintain its fringe edges because their threads lose all the time. But at least those edges are easily salvageable, unlike damaged areas in the middle of the rug.

The only way to restore a damaged area of an Oriental Rug is by having it rewoven. Since you probably can't locate the original weaver, you'll need to find someone who is equally talented to reweave it. If the weaver can match the original design color and style, then your Oriental Rug will look almost brand new in the end.
